Arlington Real Estate Guide

Why Own Real Estate in Arlington

Arlington, TN is a growing suburb of ~20 square miles. With a population of ~14,500, the town is located in Shelby County in the southwestern part of Tennessee, and is located ~25 miles northeast of Memphis. Established in the 1830s around a railroad depot, Arlington remains a community with a small-town, rural/suburban feel while still providing easy access to big city amenities.

In the early 1800s, Arlington was known as Haysville after the town’s original landowner: Mr. Samuel Jackson Hays, a descendant of President Andrew Jackson. In 1883, Haysville was renamed Arlington - a name suggested by Captain Henry Pitman who had returned from visiting the Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia and thought it was the most beautiful spot on earth. By the end of the 19th century, Arlington boasted its own post office, physician, blacksmith, meat market, and several general stores including the S.Y. Wilson & Company which is still located in Depot Square - the heart of Arlington.

Arlington’s growth has continued with new residential and commercial developments, however the community maintains a tight-knit atmosphere. The sense of community, amenities, and proximity to nature make Arlington an attractive place for both families and individuals who are looking for a peaceful yet connected lifestyle.

With over over 60 acres of parks, Arlington has a variety of recreational facilities and walking trails. A public library, active Senior Center, and many local restaurants, stores, and businesses serve the community. Arlington also hosts a wide variety of community events for its residents including Arlington in April, Music on the Square, Depot Square’s Christmas tree lighting, and its annual barbeque festival. The Arlington Community Schools district is known for its quality education and community involvement - STEAM learning begins in middle school and their high school over 40+ college-level courses!

If you’re looking for a place that preserves the past while planning the future, Arlington fits the bill! Arlington’s people and charm, along with the Town’s low cost-of-living, make it a desirable place to call home.
